WHAT IS NATUROPATHY?

Naturopathy is a heath care philosophy that examines each of the body systems, encouraging synergy to promote optimum health. Treatment usually involves the combination of Herbal Medicine, Flower Essences, Nutrient Supplementation, as well as nutritional and lifestyle advice, to support many key health problems, both chronic and acute.

WHAT IS NATUROPATHIC CONSULT?

An initial consult of 60-75 minutes is required for all new and lapsed (greater than two years since last appointment) clients. It is an in-depth consult covering both the presenting/chief health issue, as well as a systems overview. Follow-up consults are designed to check in with how the treatment protocol is going, and where we need to go next. Follow-ups are generally twenty to thirty minutes in length.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT IN MY FIRST CONSULT?

In an initial consult you will be asked to discuss the health complaint that has brought in for the consult. Once there is a fair understanding of the key complaint, an evaluation and assessment of rest of the body systems will take place. This is to understand what else may going on, and check out what other systems are affected, or maybe even contributing to the primary problem. You might be asked to share your diet in detail, or we may look at more mental and emotional aspects of what is going on; all of this will be done with privacy and confidentiality in place.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Once all the information is on the table, a treatment protocol will be put into place. This may be a herbal tonic you will take, you might be prescribed some supplements, or we may look at adjusting some diet and lifestyle factors.

WHAT IS A FOLLOW-UP CONSULT, HOW WILL I KNOW I NEED ONE?

Usually, a follow-up consult is booked for a fortnight, to check in how things are going; then depending on the condition, and your commitment to health, follow-ups may be fortnightly, monthly, or as required. These follow-ups may vary in length from 15-45minutes, depending on your health goals and requirement. It is important to bear in mind that my role is to help implement life-long changes which will promote health and well-being that is sustainable, even without my resources. In naturopathy, there are no quick fixes, only lifelong achievements.

WHAT IS PERFORMANCE NUTRITION?

A Performance nutrition consult is primary focused for individuals with an interest in maximising sports performance. These clients may be actively competing in events such as marathons, endurance events, or competition days such as Cross-Fit. These are clients who need to ensure they are maximising their nutritional intake to exceed at their given activity.

WHAT IS WELLNESS COACHING?

All naturopaths are wellness coaches. It is the role of the naturopath to help facilitate change and growth; coaching is an integral part of being a naturopath. From a coaching perspective, positive psychology, understanding the mind-body connection, and addressing behaviours of change, are all essential on the journey to health and wellbeing. Wellness coaching includes, but is not limited to:

  • Understanding and evaluating ones’  relationship with food and nutrition
  • Recognising stress response patterns for  the individual
  • Facilitating mindfulness, relaxation, and  implanting suitable ‘coping’ mechanisms.

WHAT IS A FLOWER ESSENCE CONSULT?

Working on more the energetic part of the self, these consults will help to explore emotional blocks and mental/emotional attributes of yourself that you feel you need help shifting or improving. Common complaints include anxiety, feelings of loss of direction, and trying to settle a busy mind. These consults are a short, twenty-minute time of guided reflection and conversing; these consults include an individualised 15ml bottle of Flower Essence.

WHAT IS MY INVESTMENT?

As of Jan 2022, the investment for consults are:

  • •Initial case review appointment  – $120
  • •Follow-up appointment – $70
  • •Results/acute appointment  – $40

CAN I CLAIM THIS ON MEDICARE OR MY PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE?

Currently, preventative health methods such as Naturopathy cannot be claimed for under Medicare. Whilst Jenna does have Private Health Fund numbers with most of the major Funds, it’s important to note the following. As of April 2019 you’ll no longer be able to claim for naturopathy or herbal medicine. This is such a disappointing outcome for the role of preventative health in Australia.
